The City of Lytle has been experiencing a lot of problems with clogs and blockages CAUSED BY DISPOSABLE WIPES at its wastewater treatment plant for several years now.  However, over the past several months, these problems have been occurring more frequently and the clogs have gotten larger and are causing the plant's clarifiers to shut down.  In the past, we have talked to customers from areas in the city where wipes were found in the manholes, and asked them to not flush disposable wipes.  Since this problem has gotten worse, we felt the need to let our customers know that these wipes are NOT flushable.  Even though product labels say these wipes are flushable, there have been several studies done over that past several years that provide evidence that they are clogging wastewater systems.  We ask for all our sewer/wastewater customers to assist the City with this problem by not putting your wipes in the City's sewer system, and instead throw them in with your trash.  The most recent blockage caused one of the clarifiers at the sewer plant to have to be shut down for several days.  If a problem had occurred with the other clarifier at the plant at the same time, the City and its sewer customers would have faced a real crisis.  We want to avoid this from happening in the future, so we are advising our customers about this matter, and asking for their cooperation with this problem.  If you have any questions concerning this topic, you may call the Lytle City Hall at 830-709-3692, option 7.  Thank you in advance for helping us to keep your sewer lines free of debris and running.  We know that everyone hates to have sewer back-ups in their homes and your help with this problem will help avoid this from happening.
