Lytle was founded in 1882 by Captain John T. Lytle, a cattleman, when a railroad station was established in this area.

Lytle became an incorporated city by an election held on October 27, 1951. The actual incorporation date is listed as October 29, 1951.
History - John Lott
Attached is a history of the City of Lytle as written by John C. Lott, one of Lytle’s founding fathers, who served the city as Mayor and Council Member. John Lott Municipal Park was named in Mr. Lott’s honor since he was instrumental in receiving the funding and overseeing the construction of the park back in 1977.
